Introduction to Acrylic Painting

Curious to begin painting, but unsure where to start? This class will provide you with basic knowledge to begin use to acrylic paints. We will begin with a brief overview of image building and color theory, then explore those ideas through landscape painting. This class is an introduction – so all ages are welcome (recommended age 12+). Please feel free to bring your personal materials, otherwise acrylic paints, brushes, & boards will be provided. $45

Essentials for Creating Better Paintings

Join Mark Davis for a group discussion on the essentials for creating better paintings. Learn how to identify the basic elements in evaluating what makes a successful painting… or not. Learn the basic rules of composition, where to put things and where things don’t belong. You’ll learn tips for creating a focal point, how to create a sense of depth in your paintings by controlling values. The discussion concludes with a constructive critique. Bring a painting you are having difficulty with, and get tips for fixing problem areas. $35

Intro to Watercolor Painting

The art of watercolor can be elusive, but in this introductory class I will introduce you to basic watercolor techniques, as well as some helpful tips & tricks to elevate your watercolor knowledge. This class is an introduction – so all ages are welcome (recommended age 12+). We will be starting with a lighthouse and cloudscape in a single 4×6 image. Introduction to Portrait Drawing

In this class we will be looking closely at the human form – breaking down the anatomy of the face & studying how to effectively portray it through use of graphite, charcoal or colored pencil. We will briefly cover proportion, measuring, as well as the importance of understanding your media. This class is an introduction – so all ages are welcome (recommended age 12+). FROM SOURCE TO STUDIO: Bridging the Gap Between Plein Air Sketches & Methodically Planned Masterpieces

Come paint with acclaimed oil painter Allie Zeyer for a workshop focused on bridging the gap between plein air sketching in the field and developing a methodically planned studio masterpiece.  This 2-day workshop is open to all levels—but it is especially geared for students that have some plein air experience in oil and/or acrylic.

Allie will review the basics of capturing source material in the field including sketching, photographing & creating small studies. Then head inside to review the morning’s plein air sketches in a group discussion followed by a demonstration of Gouache studies & digital photography edits. You’ll learn how to use your new understanding of these fundamental tools to create more expressive and exciting work. Two days of plein air set you up with plenty of painting time and individual attention. $25o PAPI Members/$275 Non-Members  REGISTER HERE
