CALL TO ARTISTS | Eagle Sculpture Invitational
The Eagle Arts Commission is preparing for our first Eagle Sculpture Invitational. The only of its kind in Idaho, the summer-long art show showcases professional sculpture artists around the city of Eagle. The show provides an avenue for these talented artists to bring their art to where the people are, in parks, pathways and downtown Eagle. The community-wide effort is designed to present new art experiences to not only the public, but municipalities, corporate entities and other potential customers and arts patrons.
Sculptors are invited to submit proposals now through mid-April. Artworks may be representational or abstract, functional or non-functional, stationary or kinetic; they must be durable to withstand outdoor elements, created within the past 3 years and safe for public interaction. Click Here for Call for Artists details.
Eight artists will be invited to participate for the exhibition running June through September 2014. Each will receive a $500 stipend, installation assistance and be the guest of honor at a special Premier Party on June 7. Artists will also compete for a $1000 “Best of Show” award and a $5000 purchase prize to be awarded at the end of the show.

ROB HART | Into the Wild
OPENING RECEPTION | Friday March 7 | 5:00pm – 8:00pm
The mountains of Central Idaho have been my passion for many years. Running, climbing, and hiking through such beauty, with my camera and a few good friends, have given me so many wonderful experiences, particularly in the Sawtooth Range – where I continue to explore the most remote regions, and chase the evening light.
There are no sign of camps here – no fire rings or tent platforms. This is wilderness, and it should be treated as delicately as possible. There is no reason, ever, to have a fire at high alpine lakes. The warming qualities of an open fire have long been replaced by modern fabrics and goose down. So, if it’s just the hypnotic television quality of the fire that you need, please stay with the motorhome crowds at the designated lakeside campgrounds. This place is wild – and should always remain so.
Lecture & Slide Show | Thursday, March 20 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Join us for a special presentation. Rob Hart, a photographer, writer, climber, hiker, diver, and adventurer racer from Boise shares his more memorable adventures of photographing the Death Hike, Rob’s own un-sanctioned, un-official, ultra-marathon that covers from between 25 and 90 miles in the Sawtooths a single day. Slide show, tall tales and photo tips all included. Space is limited. Please RSVP to reserve your seat 208-888-9898.

THE PATH CHOSEN | Photography of Charlie Carter
Few art methods have changed as dramatically as photography. Shaped by innovation and technology, the process of making photographs has undergone a revolution since its invention 125 years ago. Fine art black and white silver gelatin printing is a fading art. It requires a highly skilled and experienced darkroom technician. A devoted band of film fans still adhere to the traditional method of gelatin silver printing. Meet artist and photographer Charlie Carter.
Clinging to the traditional means of the gelatin silver process, photographers like Charlie continue the practice through the use of film and silver coated papers. “I am inspired and influenced by technique. My interest in the past is becoming more prominent in my work today,” says Charlie. His compositions are a contrasting mix of 19th century bookplates images combined in the darkroom with his contemporary landscapes. It is in the darkroom manipulation where science becomes art. The selection of the appropriate negative and the preparation for the selected negative in the enlarger is a long procedure. The laborious process of printing these numerous ideas into a single photograph is complex and very time consuming. It’s not uncommon for Charlie to produce several images before creating the one that fits the highest standard.
“Each photograph is unique due to how it is printed and the paper it is printed on. The complexity and spontaneity that occurs in the printing of my photographs ensures its originality to the collector”. Charlie Carter
Carrying photography equipment into Idaho’s backcountry you come to understand where Charlie Carter’s passion lies. Being a native Idahoan, his pursuit of the perfect black and white photograph has led him all over the west in hopes of capturing the majesty and grandness of the Western landscape. His strives to create images that inspire and emotionally move the viewer into looking at the natural world around them. Creating an appreciation for the art of silver gelatin black and white photography is a bonus. “My goal is to produce imagery that evokes appreciation to technique, creative merit and intellectual thought while upholding the traditional process of fine art photography.”
Charlie received a BFA degree from Boise State University while studying under Professor Howard Huff. He has worked in his chosen medium for the past 20 plus years and is steadfast in making his photographs the “old fashion way”. Charlie resides in Meridian, Idaho.
Charlie Carter’s exhibit, The Path Chosen opens Friday October 4, 2013 and continues through early November at the Gallery at Finer Frames.
